These courses emphasize regular participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Student learning will include the application of movement principals to refine skills; participation in a variety of activities that enhance personal competence, fitness, and health; examination of issues related to healthy sexuality, healthy eating, substance use and abuse; and the use of informed decisionmaking, conflict resolution, and social skills in making personal choices.

Healthy Active Living Education
This course emphasizes students' daily participation in a variety of enjoyable physical activities that promote lifelong healthy active living. Students will learn movement techniques and principles, ways to improve personal fitness and physical competence, and safety/injury-prevention strategies. They will investigate issues related to healthy sexuality and the use and abuse of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs and will participate in activities designed to develop goal-setting, communication and social skills.

This course will provide a variety of traditional (e.g. basketball, badminton, etc.) and non-traditional (biking, self-defense, etc.) activities through a recreational approach that will allow you to lead a healthy active life. Personal and Fitness Activities - Girls Fitness This course is offered for those girls who are interested in improving their personal fitness level. Fitness is emphasized throughout the course via many different activities (e.g. aerobics, cardiorespiratory training, stability ball training, tubing, circuit and strength training). Also offered is a personalized weight program which includes weekly weight training sessions with the goal of improving a girl's body image, self esteem, and level of fitness.

This course will provide an opportunity for you to develop your skills in traditional group sporting activities (e.g. basketball, volleyball, rugby, etc.) through a competitive environment. Hockey Skills Introductory Course
This course will provide an opportunity for you to develop your skills in hockey through a competitive environment. You will develop individual skills as well as learn game and team strategies. The fitness component will be addressed through individual fitness profiles. This co-ed course is open to grade 9 and 10 students who are interested in improving their hockey skills. The course will include 3 on-ice sessions each week and 2 off-ice sessions which may include dry land training. Students will also experience innovative training techniques and equipment that will be used in the on-ice and off-ice sessions. Belleville Bulls will be involved in this course as peer tutors or co-op students providing extra instruction on and off the ice. There will be a fee for this course to cover the costs associated with programming.

The Hockey Skills Course is open to any grade 11 or 12 student who is interested in developing their competitive hockey skills. This co-ed hockey course is available to all students regardless of their ability. The course will include 3 on-ice sessions and 2 off-ice sessions each week and will include dry land training, innovative training techniques and equipment. Students will improve their skating stride, individual and team hockey skills as well as personal fitness. Belleville Bulls will be involved in this course as peer tutors or co-op students providing extra instruction on and off the ice. Students will also focus on nutrition and psychological aspects of sport. There will be a fee for this course to cover the costs associated with programming.

Exercise Science
This course focuses on the study of human movement and of systems, factors, and principles involved in human development. Students will learn about the effects of physical activity on health and performance, the evolution of physical activity and sports, and the factors that influence an individual's participation in physical activity. The course prepares students for university programs in physical education, kinesiology, recreation, and sports administration.

Recreation and Fitness Leadership
This course focuses on the development of leadership and coordination skills related to recreational activities. The practical component will involve organizing special events and activities within the classroom, high school and elementary schools in the community. The course will prepare students for college programs in recreational, leisure, and fitness leadership.

Personal and Fitness Activities
This course is offered for those girls who wish to continue working on their personal fitness. Students will establish their individual goals and work towards achieving them throughout the semester. Training methods will vary depending upon the needs of the class. (Possibilities include: weight training, circuit training, stability ball and tubing training, cycling, roller blading, walking, running, aerobics and dance.) Students will also be refining their decision making, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills, with a view to enhancing their mental health and their relationships with others. A small fee may be required for specific activities.
